Ballygowan, Banbridge - John McLaughlin
« on: Saturday 19 December 15 10:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Looking for info on John McLauchlan - states on his mother' s death Cert 26th Mar 1926 (Glasgow) as being from Ballygowan Banbridge - he was born 10th Sept 1875 Leith Edinburgh (John McLaughlan) His Father and Mother check-out on certs - although on his birth cert states parents wedding year as 1873 rather than 1872 - hoping this leads to finding his father's death cert - I believe John Mclaughlan (father) died 1910. (the lead on getting the mother's cert and the 1910 year comes from a letter written by his daughter Catherine in 1921 to US army)

You could try the 1901 Census..  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gp7/

here I have put in McL*ughl*n  as it covers  McLaughlan/McLaughlin/ McLoughlin/McLoughlan  so you can use * as wildcard

More 'recent' information is often difficult to find online. Latest available census is 1911, not all directories online (and those online probably only list business and professional people), etc.

Have you found John in Scotland in 1901 and 1911? (I can't see any likely matches in Ireland but hallmark's link will allow you to search both)

Mother died in 1926 and you believe father might have died c1910. What's mother's status in 1911 census? Have you found them in 1901? (this will help you narrow down a date of death)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

The valuation revision books list a John McLoughlin in Ballygowan (parish of Aghaderg) from 1925 onwards. He was renting plot 13 which was a farmhouse, outbuildings and 11 acres.

My link won't get McLauchlin/McLauchlan though... try  McL*u*hl*n and MacL*u*hl*n also!
