Dawn has kindly done a 1939 lookup at Kew for Elizabeth Maddison for me and I have tried three times to send a pm with my email address. Each time it says I am successful but as I haven't heard back I believe there is a problem. Has anyone else had the same problem?

That'll be it, I messaged her twice without reply re her visit to Kew.

On the plus side, my mother's family who she couldn't find have now suddenly turned up, plus the rest of the hamlet - whether because I badgered FindMyPast or because they've suddenly "found" a lot more records I don't know.

I just checked and my grandfather has turned up after I told FindMyPast parts of the road were missing. Don't know where my grandmother is though, she ought to be with him.
