Can anyone identify a building in Patrington, perhaps no longer in existence? I have a scan of an official photograph of soldiers of the Cameron Highlanders, captioned Whitehills (Patrington) after Dunkirk 1940, taken in front of an old, brick-built manor house. I'm not an expert in architecture, but I'd guess Georgian, early 19th century. Unfortunately, the scan of the photo is too large to attach to this message.
There are two pairs of fluted columns on either side of the portico, three windows on the first floor and two windows, set in shallow arches to each side of the entrance. You can just see other parts of the house to the sides. The part to the right seems to have a curving roof, indicating a rounded bay or tower. I no longer have the original picture, as I donated it with other photos and items to the Highlanders' Museum at Fort George.
I don't know Patrington and my efforts to trace a place of this name, or locate a picture of anything similar, in online sources have been unsuccessful.
I'd be very grateful for any help.
Many thanks
Joyce
