http://newspapers.library.wales/search?range%5Bmin%5D=1804&range%5Bmax%5D=1919&query=%22caerau+arms%22&page=1

Hi
I have found the Caerau Arms on the 1901 census. The head of the household is Francis C Sage (RG13/4970/113) who is down as a cab proprietor.
On the previous page/image, the addreses are 1 - 6 Cowbridge Road, then on the page for the Caerau Arms, the houses continue as 9 - 17 Saintwell (Cyntwell) the next page is 18 - 24 Cowbridge Road. I suspect this doesnt confirm the link sent earlier as being the same '8 Cowbridge Road', as street numbers may have changed over the years if properties have been demolished ??
If you then search for Caerau Arms in the Welsh Newspapers Online (put your search in as "Caerau Arms")
In particular, one page three of the results, there is an article of 1st June 1885 that talks about an individual walking with someone who lived at Culverhouse Farm when someone jumped out of the hedge near the Caerau Arms
hope this helps pinpoint the premises

There is a very small newspaper snippet of October 1916 which says that due to a problem with the previous licensee(unnamed),it was proposed that Mr Charles James Fox should become the new licensee of the Caerau Arms.

Hi Mar. Thanks to your information I have now found the Caerau Arms on the 6-inch Ordnance Survey map. Reference is: http://maps.nls.uk/view/102183879 It is in the very top righthand corner of this sheet and as luck would have it Culver House (sic) is on the sheet above. To view this map substitute 102183759 in the above.
Thanks also Despair. That gives me the date for when he took over the Pub.

Fab  :)
glad all the jigsaw pieces have fitted together neatly. As someone who knows the 'shopping areas' of Culverhouse very well, it is quite astonishing to see how things have changed in 115 years from the map link of 1901
