Elizabeth Fisher (born c1812 in Kingstone, Staffs)
« on: Saturday 09 January 16 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Elizabeth Fisher was baptized at Kingstone on 15th May 1812,  the daughter of William Fisher (1780-1862) and his wife Hannah (nee Abberley, 1777-1861). They had 8 children, the eldest being my great-great-grandmother Ann, and the others were Walter, William, Joseph, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Jane and Hannah.

That's the only certain knowledge I have of her. For a long time I thought I had found her, married to a Robert Harper and later settled in Bromsgrove, Worcs. On that assumption I have been in touch with several descendants and listed dozens more, especially a very interesting family in USA. However, it now looks likely that I was wrong so I will have to send a grovelling apology to them, albeit perhaps eased by the info I can give to them even if I am not their cousin.

However, before I do, I'd like to be absolutely sure by finding what happened to "my" Elizabeth and so far have found nothing.

Her father was born in Abbots Bromley, Staffs, and the family lived in various villages around that area - mainly Blithfield and later, Colton. Charlotte was born in Kingstone in 1809, as was Elizabeth in 1812. But the next and youngest two children, Jane and Hannah, were both born in Drointon in 1815 and 1817. Except for Elizabeth, I have marriage records for all of them and have found them in 1841. So she must have either died or married by then.

Can anyone help, before I rupture Anglo-American relations!?

Confirmed on FindMyPast.  Walter made his mark, everyone else signed.  Marriage by Banns.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Elizabeth Fisher was my great Grand mother x 3 married to William Harrison Blore on the 28th April 1834 Blithfield Parish Church, they went on to have 3 children Ann b 1834, Sophia b 1836 and William Antil b 1838.  William and Elizabeth moved to London where the 2 older children were born, Ann remained living with her Grandparents William and Hannah.  In 1841 Sophia and William went to live with their other Grandparents Simon and Jane Blore.

I have been searching for the death of Elizabeth Blore (Fisher) with no result, so wondering if PAK has found any information about Elizabeth.  William Harrison remarried in 1847 to Matilda Bartlet

Any information would be appreciated

Hi Helina. It's a long time since I looked at the Fishers and the notes I have are not very definite. However, what I have so far is as follows :
".... . There is no firm record(1) of Elizabeth after the birth of her 3rd child in 1838.
William is known to have started work at Buckingham Palace in 1840 and from 1841 until 23rd November 1859 was assistant usher in the servants hall, with the grand title of “Usher of the Hall”. He remarried in 1847, to Matilda Bartlett at Cowes on the Isle of Wight and later probably held a position at Osborne House. They had at least 4 more children. In 1851, he is still at the palace, whilst his first family were living with grandparents in Staffordshire and Derbyshire, and his wife and second family with Matilda’s parents at Cowes. By 1871 he was running the “Juniper Berry” beerhouse at 16 Castle  Square in Southampton. He died in the Southampton district."

A footnote re Elizabeth says " 1:   The most likely record is that for the death of an Elizabeth Blore in the Chelsea district in Q2 1847."

Do let me know if you have more success than I. And good luck!

Hi,

The GRO index shows that the Elizabeth Blore who died in the Chelsea district in 1847 was 74 and I've found a burial that looks like hers,

06 April 1847
St George, Hanover Square
Elizabeth BLORE
South St, Chelsea
Age:  74y

So that one doesn't look like the right one, but at least it crosses one off the list.

Regards,
Daisy

She must have died between the birth of her youngest child in 1838, and her husband's remarriage in 1847. So if the one in Chelsea is not her, it looks like we may be back to square one! I imagine a divorce was unlikely. Best bet (but with no evidence yet found) is that she died after the birth of her youngest so Q4 of 1838 or Q1 of 1839.
Alternatively, how clear is the age of 74 on the burial record?
