Frisken photo set, Berwickshire & Orkney [11]
« on: Saturday 09 January 16 23:49 GMT (UK) »
Photographer:  unknown
Location: unknown (most likely Berwickshire, Orkney, Edinburgh or Glasgow)
Subject:  "Mrs Walker"

An estimate of the date the photograph was taken, and your best guess at the age of the female subject, please.

This may be the mother-in-law of Agnes Frisken (1821-1898).  Agnes was the younger sister of George Frisken from [1].  Agnes married William Walker, a Mason's apprentice.  William's mother was Catherine, born in about 1791.  Would her age seem to fit this photo?  Or would this be Agnes "Walker" after her marriage?

mid-late 1860's.

Thank you for the photo date estimate Jim!

Do you think it's possible that the Walker family sent this photo of Agnes Frisken (born 1821) and wrote "Mrs Walker" (her married name) on the rear?

Or that upon receipt her brother and sister-in-law (George and Isabella from the photo in [1]) had written her married name on the photo?

Would either of these possibilities fit with 'convention' at the time?

I can't make out how old the woman in this photo appears to be, hence the difficulty trying to place it in the tree.

If this photo was taken in the 1860's then Agnes' husband was alive (confirmed by census entry in Newcastle from 1871).

The photographer could have written it to identify the sitter....from your dates....I think it could well be her.

Carol

I think your idea makes a lot more sense than mine!  Her age fits much better for Agnes than any other female Walker, and it would seem to be consistent if Agnes' parents have photos of her sibling brothers.

Thank you very much Carol!
