Leonard Walker - quarry accident Tideswell area

I'm trying to obtain details of an accident in which my GGF Leonard Walker (b 1853 Tideswell) lost a leg. On the 1891 census he is a limestone dresser and on the 1901 a shoe and boot dealer. I suspect the accident probably happened in this time period.

I did a search of newspapers some time  ago without success.

Any suggestions where else I might try will be welcomed.

Was it an industrial accident or outside of his employment?

There is some historical info here about limestone quarries etc but I have my doubts that records of industrial accidents would exist some 120+ years later

I know very little about the incident. Some in the family say an explosion was involved which would suggest an industrial accident to me!

You could try contacting the records office to see if they can advise on the availability of the type of records you need access to

By way of an update.

I got a reply to my query to Local  Studies this morning. The initial response was that it will be difficult to proceed without knowing the name or location of the quarry. TRUE!

I was given clear instructions on how to find quarrying records on the online guide. First run through doesn't show anything obviously relevant.

A list of newspapers probably worth looking at was provided. These are not searchable online.

Finally my attention was drawn to the many references to quarrying to be found in the Local Studies Library card index.

I thought it was a very useful reply.

As I suspected I am going to have to have a dedicated trip to Derbyshire this year to try and progress details of GGF's accident. I can probably look at maps and directories for quarries and companies online beforehand.
