EVELEIGH baptisms
« on: Monday 11 January 16 16:54 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate the baptisms of two relatives. Robert and Jane EVELEIGH had 9 children that I know of: Mary Ann (b 1830), John Robert (b 1832), Thomas (b 1834), Elizabeth Jane (b 1836), William Auton (b 1839), Richard May (b 1841), Thomas James (b 1843), George Henry (b 1845) and Agnes Auton (b 1850).

The first three children (Mary Ann, John Robert and Thomas) were all baptised in Honiton, Devon. The next child (Elizabeth Jane) was baptised in Langport, Somerset. The last three (Thomas James, George Henry and Agnes Auton) were all baptised in Honiton, Devon.

The two children I can't find baptisms for are William Auton and Richard May. They could have been baptised in either Langport or Honiton. In the 1841, census the family are in Langport. By 1851, they are all back in Honiton.

In addition, I am having difficulty in finding a BMD reference for the birth of Thomas James Eveleigh, who if census records and baptism records are to be believed was born in c1843.

Geoff, many thanks for your input. Unfortunately, the Thomas Eveleigh I am interested in was born in 1843 not 1850, as he was baptised as Thomas James Eveleigh in Honiton on 11 Oct 1843. With regard to your other post concerning Richard and William, I already knew as stated in my opening post that they were born in Langport in 1839 and 1841. What I was seeking was information about their baptisms, as they appear to be the only children in the family without baptisms.

Pheno your discovery could be relevant. The only problem I see is that he was baptised in Honiton in October 1843, which suggests that the family had already moved back to Honiton from Langport. I suppose the only way to really find out is to order the certificate, unless anyone has any other ideas of testing your suggestion.
