Just on off chance ;were your landman folk 's parents from Russia
and/or   did they come  to South Africa  from England

as I have quite a few examples of marriages + electoral rolls in Russia which so far are not connected to my Landmann family

and a 1897 marriage in Manchester

one of my lot travelled to USA with a Landman (cousin ?)
I have noted all the Landman in records in RIGA  region in Russian Latvia ;

so have names for Landman/landsman /lantzman families

 deaths go back to 1896
Electoral rolls in 1871
marriages from 1884
1897 census

My gggranmother was 1850 birth of Geis-Eida nee Landsman /Landman her marriage + death in 1888
i have birth + death records of 7 0f her  children surname Fellman

Her husbands second wife was
Sheina b.circa 1860 daughter of Ruvin Landman

don't know if she was Geis-Eida(Edith)'s sister  + I have the marriage transcription as 1889

I don't know the names of their siblings so cant link them with the other Landman

good luck with your seach hope to see you in the caht room soon

Hi

I have managed to get my Landman line back to 1750 in the Cape with Johannes Abraham Landman wife Martha Maria Rog as direct line through paternal grandmother.  With his father Willem Adriaan Landman born Amsterdam Holland b 1715 marrying 2nd wife Jacoba Johanna Jonker b 1747 in May 1768 in the Cape.  Haven't looked to see when or how he arrived and whether they were from elsewhere and just settled in Holland.

Been doing transcriptions so easier to hop on and off the boards in between batches, but will pop into chat soon.....

no worries, I have Russian ancestors on another side.  Haven't got much further as I am sure the name was changed when they arrived in England
