Hi,
Can anyone help with army abbreviations on my Dad's WW2 records.
I have managed to work out most of them on his army record sheet, but having trouble with a note on his Soldiers Service and Pay Book.
He was granted Python leave , due to his service overseas, on 17th August 1945 from Bari, Italy. According to record sheet he spent 118 days at "home". However his Service Pay book states:
21/8/45   30 days DIS & VJ  to 19/9/45
10-19/10/45   Private
19/11-2/12/45    14 days EMB.
I wonder if anyone can explain the first entry I would be most grateful
Thanks.

My dad had been in Alexandria, Egypt  for four years in August 1945.  as far as I know  he had not had Home leave to the UK  in that time.  But as there was uncertainty as late as July 1945, as to the war with Japan,  our forces in Middle East  could have been needed in the continuing war in the Pacific.  Therefore there may have been a slight delay in bringing men and women in the ME  home for de-mobilisation.
14 days EMB   could mean  14 days Embarkation Leave

Thank you all for your all help with my father's war records
It would have been my his 95th birthday tomorrow and we are having a celebration of his life.
My contribution is his war story, which hopefully I am able to complete now.
He was a great man!
