1841 - census, Alfred Smith
« on: Saturday 16 July 05 17:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have managed to find my husband's grt, grandfather (Alfred Smith, age 14, collier) on the 1851 census.  He was living with his mother Maria (age 33, widow/dressmaker) and his brothers Benjamin (age 11, collier) and John (age 8).

They were living in Lydbrook, which I believe is West Dean/Forest of Dean.  I would love to find them on the 1841 census as then I would have the father's name.

Regards

Julie
Stiff - Monmouthshire & Glos, Parry - Monmouthshire
Stafford - Glos, Liles - Glos, Bright- Glos, Webb - Monmouthshire & Glos, Smart - Glos, Smith - Glos
Sullivan - Ireland, Jones (oh dear! Almost as bad as Smith), Walker - Somerset, Llewellyn
And, no don't laugh...Crump...I think it's great!

And of course, if I ever do manage to do a successful look up it is crown copyright and all that legal stuff!

I can`t find Lydbrook in the Glos 1841 census index so it`s possible it was included with the Monmouth census.

Hi Sue and Sue  :-*

I lurve this site.  I had thought - Smith - noone is going to want to look for that one.  ;D

Thank you, thank you and so on...too gushing?? :o Moi??

I don't know about the 1841 census, but I hate Smith...and Jones...and I am not to keen on Williams...especially when otherwise reliable and sane family members tell you stories that you think...Ah, that's a good lead...only to find you are on a total and utter wild goose chase...and then they don't believe you when you PROOVE them wrong...

It's ok, I'm ok...I'll just go and have a lie down in a dark room...I think the heat is getting to me....

Regards

A slightly overheated Julie  :-[ :-[
