Wow. I love these stories and the challenge of finding living descendants. I'll be following this thread with interest.

There is no mention of this couple returning letters to the family - I think they should, and hope they do.  :)

Yep, they did Ruskie - I would hope this means that they would also hand the letters over to a descendant!

"James and Renae are keen to find out more about the couple and would like to hear from their descendents, as they are hoping the couple will have grandchildren or other relative who would be interested in the story and could tell them more about the couple".

We are hoping to find some of their descendents, there must be some family connection,"said Renae.

"I've had a bit of a look online at ancestry.com and that kind of thing. They had three children and two of them were girls. One of the daughter, Suzanne, I think she was a nurse in New Plymouth. The other children wee Joy and Peter."

This paragraph is at the bottom of the article, but can't seem to pick it up it up on the copy and paste.

I've looked in the Stratford White Pages, there are a couple of P. Gower names, but a bit late to call tonight.

What a wonderful thing for the descendants - if they can be located!

Yes, I noticed what you have quoted, but they don't specifically mention passing the letters to descendants, just that they would be interested in hearing from descendants. That's how I understood it anyway - I may be wrong. What we are reading is just the paper's interpretation of the story. As we know papers often get it wrong.  ;D

Well Ruskie, fingers crossed!  As I said in my first post, I hope this means they would hand them over!  :)

Lets hope that descendants can be found and more importantly, that they are interested in taking the letters. I know I would be!  ;D

A couple of ideas........

Hopefully someone may be able to do a newspaper death notice look up for Carlyle Winston GOWER,* as this may reveal more about the family e.g. married names of his daughters.

Also someone with local knowledge could approach funeral directors in the area as it is possible they will hold records with family information.

*Known as Dan. Date of death, 1.7.1977.
