I found something here:

"Suspect aliens from Saskatchewan and Manitoba were housed in Brandon,
Manitoba"

http://www.internmentcanada.ca/PDF/Sarah%20Beaulieu%20MA%20Thesis.pdf

Maybe our search for records should start here?
Perhaps a death record in Manitoba?
Between 1914 and 1920?

Or do you think they held him further from home?

Antoni Wozniak and Maria Parachin were born in Poland in 1903. Antoni's mother was Katrina Wozniak (nee Wrobel)

So she was only 10 writing the diary entry in 1913 in Poland/Austria? Where?

Maria Parachin was married in 1922 she was 19?

Antoni Wozniak and Maria Parachin arrive in Canada in 1930?

So Janeck Parachin was Polish/Austrian?

Janeck is possibly the Polish form of Johnny?

Parachin, John
b. unknown d. Feb., 1981   Elmwood Cemetery

I found the obituary for John Parachin. He died 17 Feb 1981 in Winnipeg at the age of 93. His obituary says he was born in Austria and worked for the CPR until his retirement in 1952. Anastasia was his wife and Mary was his daughter.

So that John Parachin would have been 25 years old in 1913?  Born 1888. Wonder where he was during WW1?

And CPR is that The Canadian Pacific Railway?

*Janeck Parachin worked on the Railways in the diary entry.

Has this man truly been ruled out? Wonder if there were other children besides Mary Parachin?
Maybe he was living in Winnipeg and never saw the Moosejaw adverts?

John Parachin did have other children but I believe they have all died based on obituaries I found in the Winnipeg Free Press.

Yes, CPR is the Canadian Pacific Railway.

I don't see how he could be ruled out yet. I'm not sure whether the Legion's information can be taken at face value and should be confirmed. I think the only way to conclusively confirm whether the Winnipeg John is or isn't the correct one would be by ordering his marriage registration to check the parents. The Manitoba Vital Stats Historical database has a marriage for Ivan Parachin and Anastazia Pryslauska in Winnipeg on 29 Oct 1914. Ivan is another form of John. Here is a link to the database: http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php Historical registrations cost $12 Canadian (about 3GBP).

John Parachin in 1921 census says born 1891 Galicia ( Poland ) as were father & mother
( but at the time of immigration it could have beed under Austrian possession?)
Had Ruthenian as language along with family, but it was scratched out...
Spouse's Name:   Nellie Parachin   children Annie age 4 and Mary age 6  children b. Manitoba
address 633 Manitoba Ave  Municipality: Ward 3
Occupation: transcribed as Mail Carrier ( can't read that part) but it clearly reads that he
works for a construction engineer, so likely already worked for the railway
Year of Immigration: 1911 ( not always correct)

1922 directory has him at that address working at CPR  ( right hand column)

adding/: Found him in 1921 directory, & yes he already works for CPR ...no sign of him in 1920 though... http://peel.library.ualberta.ca/bibliography/921.4.2/1091.html?qid=peelbib%7Cparachin%7C%7Cscore

Oddly there are 2 registrations for Parachin births , one very late... but the mother is  Katherine/katie TWERDOCHLIB.... Shows that information is missing

My paternal grandparents spoke German as they were from a German town in Bukovina...they had to speak the language in order to get work ( originally the family was from Italy).... they declared Austro-Hungarian at immigration to Canada....
Good thing they weren't thrown into camps!!!...and all their lads signed up for ww2!!!  :(
His family also known for their longevity...he 103, his grandfather 106
