Death of Martha Hopkins at Gildersome, York, between 1760 and 22 Jul 1770
« on: Saturday 23 January 16 08:22 GMT (UK) »
Martha Hopkins was wife to William Hopkins and they married 1754.

I have located 3 children to the couple William, Zachariah and Thomas. They may also be a child Mary who died 8 Jan 1770.

Their son William died 22 Jul 1770 and his death certificate notes his mother was deceased so I am assuming she died somewhere between 1760 [birth of Thomas] and 1770 [death of William].

To date I have not located another marriage for William snr but expect it to be the case.

Can you give more clarity on this death certificate 1770   ??? you state - As GRO death certificates did not start to July 1837 in England
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi Dobfarm

They were Quakers and used death certificates for want of a better word. Records available from mid 1600's onwards.
