Gt x 1 Grandmother Agness Jupp - I cant see the wood for the trees
« on: Sunday 24 January 16 12:28 GMT (UK) »
I am calling on your help as this search is driving me nutty ::)  I have been going back over research on my Jupp side.  There are a few problems with Agnes (sometimes spelled with another s on end).  I will start with what I know:

Married Edward Jupp 1881 name given as Terry b 1849.

1861 Bosham. Margaret and Thomas Matthews both born Bosham. 4 children  inc. Agnes Matthews b.  1849 Bosham and sister Mary Jane b.1860

1871 Bosham. Thomas and Margaret, No Agnes. But Mary b. 1859

1881 Bosham. Thomas and Margaret.  Living with them Edward and Agnes Jupp and Mary Jane plus a son.

1891 Littlehampton. Edward and  Agnes( place of birth now Petersfield, Hants.) With them is Margaret M, widow, mother born Hampshire

1901  and 1911 Littlehampton . Dob now 1851 London for  Agnes.

Here is what I am usure about.

Sept. 1851 Bosham  Thomas Matthews b.1816 married Margaret Terry b. 1819. So Agnes born out of Wedlock?
1871 Littlehampton Agnes Terry (back to birth name) servant b. 1849 Midhurst.  May or not be her. Could explain why not at home.
1851 Bosham Mary Terry and dau. Agnes Terry
1851 Bosham Thomas Matthews and dau. Charlotte.
1857 birth of a Mary Jane Terry - probably not my Mary Jane

Which certificates would give me most help?  I realise I need some but depends on info I will get.

Any observatinos gratefully received.

So you are looking at an Agnes Terry b 1848/1849 - have you looked for a birth reg on freebmd and then buying a copy of her birth cert will show whether illegit or not?

Sept. 1851 Bosham  Thomas Matthews b.1816 married Margaret Terry b. 1819. So Agnes born out of Wedlock?

Looks like Margaret and Agnes are in Bosham in 1851, Margaret states that she is a widow.

Thanks to you both. Yes I will get cert.
I didn't notice widow on the census-oops. Doing this on kindle can't see docs that well.

So looks likely Agness is a Terry not Matthews.
