John Unite b.1819 St Martin in the Fields
« on: Thursday 28 January 16 06:24 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for census entries for my great grandfather John Unite b.1819 St Martin in the Fields.
I have him in 1851 surname transcribed as Ninete, described as a master brick (?) maker living Paddington with wife Charlotte and his 3 children Frank John, George Duthy and Fanny Martha.
In 1871 he was a marquee, rope and tent maker, 1881 tarpaulin maker and 1891 rich cloth/tent maker.
I can find no trace of him in 1841 or 1861, despite a lengthy search. Such an unusual surname is often wrongly transcribed. Any help would be most welcome.

Where was he living in 1871? And can you give some details on the rest of the family please?
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

In 1871 he was making marquees, ropes and tents, living in Askew Villa, Hammersmith, London with his wife Charlotte Eliza and children George and Fanny.
The Unite family also made shop blinds for many years. I can tell you anything you want to know about the Unite, or Unitt or Unett families. I've researched them all.

I had a quick look before my dinner in the 1861 census, but couldn't see them. Will have another look.
Have you got their marriage in 1846?

They are hard to find, aren't they? I searched for each individual, but no luck. Will try 1841 now.

On the electoral register for Hammersmith in 1861 a John Unite is listed at 90 Harrow Road Paddington as a lease of house with another address for him listed as 6 Richmond Terrace Shepherds Bush.

It may not be the same person but this one wasn't  living at Harrow Road in 1861 and I can't find Richmond Terrace at the moment - Edit - John Unite wasn't there either in 1861

Thanks everyone, for your efforts. I know the family owned several properties in London which they rented out. I've decided this data won't help any further than I have got.
