Elwyn,
I appreciate the offer of your help with PRONI.
Just a thought, would you keep an eye open for George Taylor in the Lease books, any time in the early 1700's.

hallmark.
Thank you for that information regarding family trees for the Lecky and McCollum family.
I will make a note of the Ms 811 (22) at the National Library.

Elwyn Soutter has very kindly looked up the Lease Books at Proni and has found the following entry

  Quote :
John McCollum, gent of Cloghoor, 3 Jan 1681, lease of Cloghoor, Kilsubin ( Kilcoobin ) Castlenagree, Ardossghtragh ( Aird ) All Parish of Billy . ( D/2977/3A/2/1/4 )

This is the information that I was looking for it shows that John McCollum first leased Aird in 1681 some 50 odd years before he purchased the fee farm simple in 1738 from the Earl of Antrim.
Thank you Elwyn, I appreciate your help in finding this information

Hi, I have researched my McCollum's in Ireland to Drumnaheark Donegal and farmland plots 4-8 in Griffith Valuation 1858 (or so) and found several McCollum tenant farmers listed. The Land owner was Marquee de Cunyngham who lived in Mountcharles, south of the farm land. I was hoping to find rental payments from them, McCollum's, to the Marquee's tenant collection.  Any help finding information on the McCollum's in that area would be appreciated.

Hello Remcallum and welcome to Rootschat!

As your query, as I read it, is in relation to land in Co Donegal rather than Co Antrim I am wondering if it would be better investigated on the Donegal Board.

You could ask the moderator to move it over to that board.

There might, I repeat might, be papers to do with the Mount Charles Estate in PRONI, Belfast (you can search their online e-catalogue) but you'd probably need to either visit in person or have a researcher look up files for you.

The other possibility is National Archives, Dublin.

There may not just be details of tenants in one place. For example, the family's solicitor may have held some files that have or have not been deposited in one of those archives.

I'm not sure exactly what sort of details you are hoping to find in estate papers but if you want to trace a property from the printed version of Griffith's Valuation until c1930 then the Valuation Revision Books might be the most helpful. (see the PRONI link I posted above to see N.I. ones)

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I am seeking records of rent payments by McCollum's to the Marquee de Cunynham business, and any other information as to the McCollum's as tenant farmers on his estate. Please list links of other sources I should contact: the Donegal group?
