Death of father

HOUSTON    William Bell
Father James  Mother Jane
District Balmain

...................

Death

LEWIS Mabel Helen
Father John  Mother Sarah Jane

Your man is not connected to John William Hugh HOUSTON or his wife Mabel OTHER-WINDSOR.  They had two daughters and a son, William.

You need to purchase transcriptions of JHH's parents death certificates.

I am agreeing with Cando's comment that you need to purchase transcriptions of JHH's parents death certificates.  NSW BDM online webpage has information about official transcriptions.

Re
Message for majm - Qld marriages online certificates are up to 1941.

cant find marriage of John bell Houston & Martha Helen Flanagan 1918,

:) NSW BDM online index has the marriage of Martha Helen FLANAGAN.     May I please ADD that this is MY typo.  Please read "Mabel" in lieu of "Martha"  This edit will make sense as you continue to read the thread around reply # 36 etc.  Thanks.  JM
It is from 1918.  It is reference # 9790.  The groom is William B HOUSTON.

:) Cando had provided you with the look up.

9790/1918
HOUSTON William B
FLANAGAN Mabel H
District Wollongong

Re Qld BDM online index.   As with all the Aussie BDM indexes, they only display up to but not into the various restricted access periods.   However, the registration process of course continues.  The restricted access period limits members of the general public from gaining access to non historic registrations.

:) Dundee provided you with excellent advice.

Do you have the marriage registration for JH and Marion, and if so, what information does JH give about himself and his parents?
Cheers,  JM
The marriage was probably less than 75 years ago but if you can prove that both are deceased you may be able to apply for a search.

May I add that, in my experience, at least with NSW BDM, that interested parties can ask for access to various non historic records, and while permission does not automatically follow, it can be worthwhile at least asking the question "under what conditions can I apply for copy of the marriage between x and y, as both are deceased" and of course you should provide copy of their death certificates.  If you are asked for the reason for your request, do not expect a positive outcome if you offer "for family history purposes" or similar.

If you are seeking information that confirms a family link to a living person, and also to a deceased ancestor of either party to the marriage, then most likely you would be a) that living person and b) seeking confirmation to find some medical history.  If you are that living person then you will also expect to be required to prove your identity.

Perhaps the heat is affecting my brain, but I am confused.

John Bell HOUSTON and Martha Helen FLANAGAN married in 1918

Cando

Who are they?  Do you mean William Bell and Mabel Helen or is this a different couple  ???

Your man is not connected to John William Hugh HOUSTON or his wife Mabel OTHER-WINDSOR.  They had two daughters and a son, William.

Cando

Mabel and the three children left Australia for the UK on the Themistocles shortly after her husband's death in 1919 and they didn't return.

I have another John Henry Houston died Qld 1985 aged 67yrs, b Woonoona NSW
Parents : William John Houston & Mabel Helen Flanagan.

OK, I reckon I know who he was.  The reasons people change their names are usually pretty standard.

Death in Queensland of a son:

1944
B66015
Hilton John HOUSTON
Parents:  John Henry & Marion HENDERSON

In Memorium for Mabel's mother Sarah Jane BRINDLEY names the three children of William and Mabel:

BRINDLEY — In sad, and loving, memory of our dear mother and grandma, Sarah Jane Brindley, who departed this life on the 31st December, 1924. 'God's greatest gift, Remembrance.' Inserted by her loving daughter and son-in-law, and grandchildren, M. and W. Houston and Jack, Hilton, Raymond, Bulli Pass.

Hilton was aged 18 in 1936:

.....and this is probably why he changed his name and moved to Queensland:
