Ivy Hole/Hall c1887
« on: Friday 05 February 16 11:26 GMT (UK) »
Ivy "Hall" appears on the 1891 census with her mother, Rosina, staying with grandparents John and Matilda Jones in Bristol. Ivy is shown as 4 years old and born in Moseley Birmingham. The surname is recorded as Hall but should be Hole. Rosina married Barnett Hole in Bristol on 8/4/1872. They subsequently moved to Kings Norton where they had 2 boys Alfred c1882 and Edward c1884 whom I have traced fully. Barnett has been found on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census as married but no wife present. I am unable to find a birth for Ivy or any record of her elsewhere. I cannot find Rosina in 1901 but have a possible in 1911 as a widow and a housekeeper in Birmingham.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you lizdb. This looks promising. I shall order the cert. I was amazed on looking at the 1911 to see her married but recorded under her maiden name.

Yes (chipping in...) I'm surprised at her retaining her maiden name.

Free index of that here: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWZ6-KK6

Moseley birthplace matches what you have from 1891.

Does the name Ermyne feature elsewhere in the Hole or Jones families?

ScobieDrom, that is the wrong Rosina as I can trace both her and my Rosina in the 1891 census. avm228 the name Ermyne does not appear on the Hole (my) side of the family and I am not researching further the Jones line as it is to remote for me.
Thank you all for your help.

Of course there is the possibility, if Rosina and her husband never seem to be together, that "Ivy" (possible Rose Ives Ermyne) is not his child at all.  IF that is the case, maybe the Ives or the Ermyne came from her natural father.
Or maybe Rosina just liked the names.

lizdb, a different father must be a possibility. Hopefully the birth certificate will clarify matters. A quick search revealed no Morris/Hole births 1911-1925 in Birmingham. Further searching put on hold til I get the birth cert.
