Ollerton Marriage Lookup Request
« on: Friday 12 February 16 21:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

My ancestor George Johnson probably married Ann Pepper at Ollerton (St Giles's church) on 19 August 1840. Ann could have been the daughter of Thomas Pepper who was buried at Ollerton in 1835, though I don't know her mother. My sources say Ann died in 1842 at Ollerton. Anyway I would like to confirm the fathers' names/occupations for George and Ann and would usually look at the parish registers, however I can't look myself at the moment. So I was hoping that someone might be able to do this lookup in the Ollerton marriage registers for me?

Thank you :)

I can't confirm the parents' names, but you say "probably married" so I can confirm the marriage date for you:

at Ollerton St Giles

1840 08 19   George   JOHNSON and    Ann   PEPPER

and this doesn't prove a link to this particular couple, but there is a baptism at Ollerton:

birthdate: 1810 01 1   baptism date:1810 02 11   Son   George   parents James   JOHNSON   and Ann

but no Pepper baptisms at Ollerton. There are several Ann Peppers baptised within the county between the early 1800s-1824 and luckily most of the fathers have different names, so if you get the info from the certificate we should be able to narrow her down.

The only death that matches the details you give of Ann is this one:

1842 01 09   Ann   JOHNSON   age  26   Milk St   Nottingham St Mary

which sadly goes with this one:

1842 01 11   Ann   JOHNSON   age 1m   Milk St   Nottingham St Mary

is that the one?

@Nottsgirl1 I would appreciate that very much thank you. :)

@Annie65115 Yes I think that's the baptism for George. I have a burial for Ann Johnson on 26 Jan 1842 at Ollerton age 25. So that means she was born about 1817.

There are 3 or 4 possible baptisms for Ann Pepper in Notts between 1815-1818 so you really need that certificate to get the father's name!
