Toft family - Birmingham
« on: Saturday 27 February 16 15:42 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if any Rootschatters in the Birmingham area are able to remember a company that had vans with the name W M Toft on the side - sorry, not much more information than that - I'm looking for a friend in Canada, whose relative remembers seeing the vans but can't pin them down to a particular firm! Possibly builders, but by no means certain. Sorry to be so vague!!

Not much of a one, I'm afraid, Carole! Part of the family went to Canada pre 1910, and the vans were mentioned in letters to them by a younger sister, so I'm guessing from 1920s onwards, possibly through till the younger sister died, so it could have been pretty much through the 1900s.
Not much help!

The only W M Tofts that I can see appear to be female - Winifred or Wendy.

Thank you for looking, Pat. ;)  I've tried googling images, and no luck. I think what Ireland need to seek out are some old trade directories - think maybe a visit to the library is in order. Just thought I'd try and see if anyone here had a memory of them.
