A Royal Connection? or not?

In 1998 an elderly lady sent me a letter in which she had enclosed an embroidered Irish linen handkerchief.

She said this had been given to her by a friend-

"Mrs. Alberta McLean, who was a God-daughter of Edward V11. She used only Irish linen. Mrs. McLean died in Dargaville in 1963."

NZ BDM index confirms an Alberta Mary McLean died in 1963. That is the extent of my knowledge about this lady.

Can anyone provide some background?

Listed in Wikipedia under 'Royal Family Godchildren'.

Alberta May Ridley marrying
Charles Wesley Weldon Mclean Lt Colonel Royal Artillery
in Jubbulpore,Bengal on the 22nd April 1924
The bride's father was Owen Evans Ridley (deceased)
The grooms father was Hugh H Mclean
Witnesses were E B Mannsell Lt Col.,Owen Evans and M Oldham.
