A tree on Ancestry has her as the daughter of Charles Nicholas Ridley and Henrietta Agnes Shenley and they do have a daughter called Alberta of the right age in 1891 and 1901. Charles Ridley died at Warnborough Lodge in 1912 so there would look to be a link. They also look from the census to be of a level of standing where they may have moved in the same circles as the King. Doesn't explain the different father's name on the marriage cert in India.

Was initially a bit confused by the electoral roll listings ... but I'd say that the following are all for the same lady. ;)

1935 & 1938 - Waikato > Thames
... Alberta Mary McLEAN  listed as "married" - living at Whangapoua.

1949 / 1954 - Northland > Hobson  ... listed as a "spinster" - at Kauri Street, Dargaville.

1957 - same place - shown as "Widow".

1963 - same place - occupation: farmer - residing at 14 Kauri Street, Dargaville.

PapersPast -- items (social pages) for "(Miss) Alberta RIDLEY"  > 1923 +.

(She's mentioned too as Mrs Weldon McLEAN on one occasion.)

There is this baptism at All Saints Knightsbridge.

1886 Feb 9
Alberta Mary, d/o Charles Nicholas and Henrietta Agnes RIDLEY, 14 Princes Gate, Gentleman

Probably the same one whose birth was registered Mar qtr 1886 St George Hanover Square.

This one married a Rupert Barton WILLIAMSON-WICKHAM at St James Westminster in 1916.

Looks like there could be two of them as there is a Mrs Anna RIDLEY and a Miss Alberta M RIDLEY arriving in London in 1913 from Bombay.

An Alberta M RIDLEY aged 36 arrived in Wellington on the Tainui in 1922 - ex Familysearch. On Ancestry she was just Miss A aged 36 a 'Lady" from Basingstoke.

A very interesting lady (and lifestyle).   :)

Clearly very wealthy too.

The following listing is from England & Wales Probate Calendar - Year:  1964

McLEAN - Alberta Mary of Kauri Street, Dargaville, New Zealand, died 13 August 1963 at Dargaville.  Probate Whangarei to the Guardian Trust and Executors Company of New Zealand Limited.    L528629 in England*.   Sealed London 15 April.

[*L = pounds .... repeating  528629 (is how the amount is written). ]  ;)

Charles W and Alberta McLEAN were on the passenger list of the 'Empress of Scotland' from Quebec to Southampton in July 1928, although his name was crossed out. Her address in UK was Sth Warnborough, Basingstoke, which is where she gave as address when she came to NZ as Alberta RIDLEY in 1922.

She travelled a bit as she was on the 'Bremen' from New York to Southampton in 1936. Going to Sth Warnborough again. Aged 50 and a Farmer.
