Book query - Banner of the Blue in auld Garydoo
« on: Sunday 13 March 16 10:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Does any rootschatter happen to have a copy of this?

Checked NI Libraries online and none seem to be held in any branch http://www.rootschat.com/links/01h97/ .

If anyone can check, would be interested to know if it mentions family surnames associated with the church, particularly Johnson or Johnston in the 1800s.

Johnson/Johnston families were in Garryduff townland at 1851 census http://www.rootschat.com/links/01h98/ and earlier in Tithe Applotment records  http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/antrim/tithe-applotments/ballymoney-parish.php#J , and wondering if they had any links to this church.

Have actually just managed to link the Johnson/Johnston name to the church by coming across marriage notice in Coleraine Chronicle of 3 Feb 1866, of a marriage on 11th January 1866 at Garryduff Presbyterian Church, between a Sarah Johnston of Garryduff and Thomas Carmichael.

Still, if anyone has the book, would be interested to know if it mentions surnames associated with the church.

Hi Scotmum,

Access the "View Catalogue" function on the Linen Hall Library's site:
http://lh-lms.qub.ac.uk/search~S1
[Via https://www.linenhall.com/pages/catalogue]

Select "Title", and enter "banner of the blue" in the next box.
Then select "Northern Ireland Publications Resource (NIPR)" in the next box.
Then press the "Search" button.

This provides details of a catalogue entry for the book (see below).
It appears to be extant (for consultation only) from off the shelves at LHL.
[Confusingly, it is not presented if you leave the third field, defining the Search operation, set to its default "Linen Hall" value!]

Good find, thanks. Unfortunately, despite all the years I have been researching, I have not been fortunate enough to get to the Linen Hall (or indeed PRONI or GRONI). Mind you, perhaps just as well, as no doubt I would need a sleeping bag and supplies, as a few hours at any would probably never suffice nor satisfy  ;D.

Thought it was strange that at least Ballymoney and Ballymena wouldn't have copies of all Alex Blair's books and sure enough NI Libraries catalogue shows 4 copies- see your link. The catalogue was down for maintenance over the weekend which is probably why you didn't get any results.

I expect to be in both places at some point so will let you know before I go to see exactly what you'd like checked.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Maintenance, well spotted, the weakest link when doing online research at weekends  ;D.
