The 'j' looks the same as the 'j' in John, but also the 's' in Spinster.
I see your problem!

Looking at all the other 'j's on the page, they are mostly a little longer and more curved.

The J's seem longer so I think that rules out jailor. That leaves sailor or tailor. My first thought was sailor but it's a long way to the sea.

Tailor I reckon.
Look at the S in Sarah and spinster,  and the J in James and John.    It's not the same as either of those initials.
Have you looked in the census for him?

The first letter is not like the 'T' of 'The Mark of' ... however look at the census as suggested by silvery.

There is a slight curve in the upright of the "S" in spinster that is not present in the first letter of the word in question. Although with the standard of writing that may not mean it is not an "S".
Personally I would say Tailor, I would also try and find some other record of his occupation.

Looks like the same letter beginning of address for "place of residence at marriage"....

I would say Tailor but a check of 1841 census should possibly be the answer unless a totally different occupation a couple of yrs later  ???
