John Jolly c 1776 -1847 Garboldisham Norfolk
« on: Sunday 03 April 16 20:36 BST (UK) »
My 3x gr Grandfather is John Jolly born about 1776, believed to be a Blacksmith , married to Frances Baxter in 1806 ( possibly 2nd wife). They had a Son John Thomas Baxter in 1807 , and a son Benjamin 1810  ( my 2x gt Gr f ), who was Master Blacksmith. From the online  church Burial records,  John died 1847 and Frances Died 1837 and they are buried together In St Johns Churchyard, Garboldisham, although the inscription on the grave does not look correct ( i have a photo). John Was a widower living with his son Benjamin in 1841.
My problem is there are quite a few John Jollys in this area of Norfolk( on Suffolk border) at this time, and I cannot find for certain who his parents were, but suspect John Jolly 1750??  and Sarah Youngman, as John and Frances also had a son Youngman Charles 1808  and in a  later generation there was a Benjamin Youngman (1877).     Has anyone evidence linking John1776  to his parents? Also, I cannot be sure that Frances was his 2nd wife, but suspect his first wife may have been Thomasina Wybry/ Wyberg, who died in 1805 .

Hi ldw

Do you know where John Jolly was born?

John Jolly (wid) married Frances Baxter 2 May 1806 by Licence in Garboldisham
John Jolly (of Hockham) married Sarah Youngman (OTP) 30 Sept 1772 in Shropham
Tabitha wife of John Jolly and Marian her infant buried 15 Jan 1805 Garboldisham

From Garboldisham MI's
Frances Jolly, age 65, 30 March 1837. Sacred to memory of John Jolly who died 8 Jan 1815 age 73.

Could this John Jolly (born C1742) be father to John born C1776?

Yes its quite possible that John c1742 is the father of John c 1776. I have a picture of the headstone and thought Francis d 1837  and John d 1815 were married,( and that 1815 was a mistake )  but this would explain the inscription.
I don't know where John was born- that is my problem - but I will pursue Hockham - although so far I haven't found a john Jolly  in Hockham.
