He is the child in Ireland found by Heywood several replies ago but with no evidence of a mother's name we don't seem to be able to prove it.
Does it help to eliminate this on based on the birth being registered Apr./June quarter?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

There's only 1 William in Wirral district (for Birkenhead) in the quarter for his birth (which NikkiiW has shared with me so I can check for a potential death).

There are some born in Birkenhead - though with a middle initial also.

Wow, to be honest I never considered the other theories. I guess I am blinkered by believing what I am told so whenever there was a William Hogg with a middle initial I didn't look into it, not that I know what I'm doing anyway, I have just been using google search and come to a dead end all the time, and my friend who does family trees for charity told me he had died in the US but from the other things he said I know that wasn't my father.

Do you feel 100% certain that the William that Heywood found is him but can't tie the 2 Dawnsh?

I don't know what to say, I have been looking on and off for 2 years and got nowhere then 2 days on posting here and there seems to be possibilities.

Hi NKKIW! This is a long shot. I looked at the Electoral Registers for Devon. Of course your father may no longer live there, or he may have asked for his details to be withheld from the register and therefore not show, but I found the following.
4 Persons named William Hogg
3 of those persons have a middle initial
2 persons are aged under 45
2 persons are aged 60 to 70
If you send me a Private Message with the middle initial I can let you know if any of these persons are a possibility.
Regards
Kathb

Hi Kath

I've established an address for him without a middle initial in 2002, do you have an address for him after this date?

May I just interject - I don't think anyone is saying that the irish man I found is him, just that he was one of the options to consider.

Thank you all for your efforts, I heard from Dawn this morning, and it seems my father died a few years ago, and strangely I feel very sad about it despite knowing him very briefly.
(Thank you Dawnsh)

I am going to apply for his death certificate and see if I can find anything else out from that.

I'll be in touch.
