There is a William H Hogg (1908) and Ada (1909) living in Liverpool in 1939.

There are 3 closed records in the household - children possibly still alive?

Could the 1937 birth year be a mistake or a deliberate lie by someone?  Is the birthplace specified as 'Liverpool' or a more precise area?

Hello Nikki,

You mentioned you thought he was Irish. There is a man born 1937 of the same name and his father seems to have the right name too. There are also siblings. These can be found easily in the indexes here.

The birthplace he specified on my brother's birth certificate is Birkenhead.
His age on the marriage licence matches the DOB my mum says so I have to presume it to be correct.

Yes mum says he was an Irish Scouser, when I did a search on that link you added, I come up with a William A Hogg mother named as O'Farrell, according to both his marriage cert and my brother's birth cert he is only known as William Hogg, and his father's name is the same - no 2nd name and born in Birkenhead.

Thank you for the further details. It was the 'Irish' reference you mentioned which led me to him.

If your brother was born in England, I don't think that father's birthplaces are shown- only addresses.

His birthplace is stated as Birkenhead on my brother's birth certificate yes (born in England), it doesn't say it on mine as I was born prior to when they added this information.

Is that not just his address? Was he the informant?
Apologies, you are talking about more recent times than we usually look at!

How interesting.

I too have not heard of the father's birthplace being on a birth certificate of his children, when did this come into place and does it give the mother's birthplace too?

Williams, Owens, Pritchard, Povall, Banks, Brown.

No worries Heywood, I thought it would be easy to track him down as it is more recent lol.

That surprises me that it's not usual for the birthplace of the father to be recorded but I got the details from the General Register Office and the woman helping me said that the fathers place of birth should be on certificates after 1st April 1969, but is only a copy of the information provided at time of registration. My brother was born in May 69.

I've attached a screenshot of it. Yes my mum's place of birth is on there too, and I know this bit to be correct lol.

My next question would be, was he present at the registration?
If, as you say, your mum believed him to be from Birkenhead, she may have offered that information in his absence.  :-\
I can't remember now how we registered our children's births  ::)
