Elizabeth PRICE - Convict Birmingham to New South Wales
« on: Wednesday 13 April 16 04:57 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for any information on Elizabeth PRICE who came to Australia as a Convict on the Surrey in 1840. She married Thomas Page in 1844 and when pardoned they had the License during the mid 1850's to mid 1860's of The Steam Engine Inn. I am trying to find her birth family in either Birmingham or Wales. There is no information on the Convict records other than native of Birmingham. She is the sister of my Great Great Grandmother Eliza Foulkes (note the different maiden names). Her birth date listed as 1820 and she died 1899. Eliza Foulkes (Elizabeth's sister) married Edward Land in Birmingham in 1835 and this family immigrated to New South Wales in 1858 and mentioned in the Ships Manife3st that Elizabeth (Eliza) Page was sister of Eliza Land ne Foulkes under the heading of Relations in the Colony.
Any help/ideas much appreciated/
Thank you
Siouxann

I suspect that the two Eliza(beth)s were sisters-in-law rather than full sisters.
It is possible to have sisters named Elizabeth and Eliza alive at the same time, but it is rare.

Perhaps Eliza Price had a brother who married a Miss Foulkes?
Perhaps Elizabeth Foulkes had a brother who married a Miss Price?

Price is a very popular Welsh surname, so it could be difficult, but chasing Foulkes/Price marriages seems a good way to start.

Come on, Rootschatters - let the hunt commence!

No problem!  To save confusion I have copied my post to the Australia thread
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=746310.0

There is no hard rule on where to post about a person who appears in more than one place.  What I suggest to people is that they pick one board (e.g. Australia) then post a message on the other board giving brief details and the link to the main posting.

Good hunting!
Philip

Hi
There's a report of the crime in the Birmingham Journal 24.1.1840.
It seems that she with a Sarah Job age 18  and John Farmer age 19  and Edward Evans age 19 were involved in robbing the grocers Horatio Cox and Benjamin Jefford of Bull St Birmingham ,stealing money and tobacco.
John and Edward did the actual breaking and entering and the girls received the goods. The man got ten years and Elizabeth and Sarah 7.
Elizabeth is 19 at the trial.
Sarah Job was caught at a house in Smallbrook St  while Elizabeth was found in the brewhouse at Vale St Birmingham.
