Ernest Dale
« on: Sunday 17 April 16 14:26 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have just come across a 2nd cousin, whom I have seen from the 1881 census served with The Royal Regiment of Horse Guards.
I imagine he must have signed on a few years earlier.
It would be interesting for me, if I could try and find anything to do with him as far as his army career was concerned.
Also, what would have been the uniform of a Horse Guard in say 1880 or thereabouts.

His details are:

Ernest Dale - born about December 1854 - baptised July 1855.
Where from: Christchurch, Hampshire, England.

Apsey, Milner.

His record from attestation in 1874 is on  FindMyPast, he served until May 1881.

When looking for uniform it is the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) at that time, plenty via Google.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

He served in the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues)

Enlisted on the 28th January 1874 aged 19 years 4 months, his previous occupation was a labourer. On enlisting he was just over 5ft 10 inches tall, fair complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair. His religion was Church of England.

He was discharged on the 9th May 1881 aged 26 years 7 months - by then he was 5ft 11ins.

As far as I can see he didn't leave England at all.

I do not have a FindMyPast account anymore....I have only Ancestry, which I find is a bit limited on some things..unless, I have been looking in the wrong place..
