Can you find Sarah in 1851 to see if she is a widow?

If they only had the one child it could be they just had a relationship and separated without getting married.

It may also be that he made up the name of a father when he married.

In the 1841 census, the birthplace is stated as either "Y" for the same county or "N" for another county. So Sarah could have been born anywhere in Worcestershire rather than the city of Worcester itself. And remember that her age would have been rounded down to the nearest 5 years. Perhaps try searching for her in 1851 with birthplace Bromsgrove and born 1799+-2, then broaden your search from there if nothing shows up.

Not sure if the actual certificate has been obtained but it's on England, Select Marriages 6 Aug 1850 with father Thomas Oliver but no actual image  :-\

May not be related but there is a Thos Oliver pauper in Worcester Asylum admitted 15 Jul 1869 died 28 Jul 1869.

Possibly this BMD entry Sep 1869 Upton

Hi,

Do you have the baptism of your Thomas born c1829?

Why I ask is that looking on familysearch, there is a baptism for a Thomas Oliver at Old Swinford on 27 March 1831, parents Samuel and Sarah Oliver.

Old Swinford was quite 'popular' for marriages etc from Bromsgrove, plus it would make sense if Sarah and young Thomas are then in Stourbridge in 1841.

Added: there is a possible marriage for a Samuel Oliver to Sarah Williams
1827 Feb 12  at Kingswinford, St Mary's.

On the 1841 census it doesn't say whether she is single , widowed or married.
