Cornelius James Summerfield Tunbridge Wells,Kent photographer

 I would appreciate your assistance in determining what happened to Cornelius James Summerfield. The last record I have for him is a 1922 directory for him is as a photographer operating his studio at 81 High Street in Tunbridge Wells. All traces of him and his family seem to disappear after 1922.

He was born 1879 in Bedford, Beforshire, one of several children born to Charles Whitgman Summerfield and Harriett Ann Fowler.

He married Emily Elizabeth Agutter  1902 in Bedford Bedfordshire. She was born August 27,1877 at Goldington,Bedfordshire, one of eight children born to William Freeman Agutter and Elizabeth Savage.

The 1911 census, taken in Bedford,Bedfordshire gave Cornelius James Summerfield as a photographic manager. With him was his wife Emily Elizabeth and the following children
(1) Lawrence Harold, born 1903 Bedford
(2) Leslie Flowler, born 1906 Goldington.Bedfordshire
(3) Marjorie Edna, born 1908 as above
(4) Vera Katherine, born 1909 as above

Any information about the family unit from the 1911 census after 1922, particularly about Cornelius would be most welcome.

C J Summerfield is credited with several photographs published in the Kent & Sussex Courier between 1918 & 1922.

Well, I've been Sc00ped to the post, but for the record, Kelly's 1927 directory shows him at Caxton Cottage, Mount Sion, Tunbridge Wells. I couldn't find any Summerfields in the next, 1930, or later editions that the library holds, either under Photographers or as a private individual.

The Victorian Photographers site has two addresses at Tunbridge Wells plus one for a Summerfield & Young in north London. It's a pay site, but we can guess that the TW ones are what we already have. A trawl through London directories (may be London Northern Suburbs) and/or a lookup request on the London & Middlesex Forum should indicate whether S&Y is a possible. Maybe it's where he managed in 1911? Not in the 1939 'phone book.
