John Craddock & Elizabeth Middleton
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 09:00 BST (UK) »
Dear all,
Does anyone know who the John Craddock is that marries Elizabeth Middleton in the (late) 1760s?
The couple end up living and having their children in Oakley (1769-1881), and I believe Elizabeth was born/baptised in Oakley as the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Middleton in 1741.
But who was John? Is he the one born in Turvey in 1740, to Zachary and Mary? It seems logical but I can't find definite clues. Maybe you clever people here know more?
Any help welcome!
Regards,
Lexi.

Have you checked the marriage entry to see if John's parish of residence was other than Oakley?

No, I wouldn't know how to. Any tips? I only have access to what is available online...

You can order the microfilm of the parish register at your nearest LDS Family History Centre. You can also purchase a transcript of the parish register from Beds FHS, although this doesn't include details of marriage witnesses, but it does include parishes of residence.

Thanks, will see what I can do with this. They are no direct relatives so I might leave it at that...

A Zechariah Craddack married Mary Knott at Oakley on 14 Jun 1730 ...
He could be the ZC baptised at Stevington on 16 Feb 1707, parents John & Mary...

In Turvey as well as baptising John 1 Mar 1740-41, they baptised Mary 16 Apr 1738.

Mary wife of Zach Cradock was buried 12 Apr 1743....
and Zach Cradock, labourer buried 21 June 1743
After wife Mary died Zach married Dorothy Hulat on 29 May 1743....
and after he died she married Richard Felts on 25 Dec 1749

So with both parents dying when John was only 2 years old he may have moved back to Oakley to live with relatives?

Sounds plausible, will investigate, thanks! It's always easier to research a Zachary than a John...  ;)

Clapham: John Craduck, wife Elizabeth & 4 children (Samuel, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann)

They would be followed by Susan, John and Thomas...

Thomas ends up marrying Ann Foot/Lightfoot from Clapham, who we met in a different thread, as you may recall?
