Dead Lane, Loughborough.

Anyone help me out with information on DEAD LANE, Loughborough. Any thing on its history, particularly its connection with the canal and possibly boat people.
Have close relatives there in 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census. In 1871 census their address is given as Canal Boat 5, Dead Lane, Loughborough.
Anything appreciated.

Thank you. Dead Lane is still in Loughborough and on the map. I know where it is, just intrigued by the name and seeking more information on its history and connection to the local navigation.

Dead Lane no longer exists.  It was a small path which ran alongside the old Limehurst School annex building & was eaten up when the area was redeveloped and the old bus station demolished.
I used to walk along the path which ran from Bridge Street to churchgate .although it comes up on Google maps it is now part of the Rushes shopping centre,

It was called Dead Lane because it was used for carrying the dead bodies along I, my not sure which burial ground but I can find out for you,

In the following year a site of land was purchased in Dead Lane, and the mother-chapel of Primitive Methodism in Leicester was built upon it.The premises in Dead Lane served the purposes of the Church for many years...

as regards the boat part of this thread... Dead lane was just around the corner from where Loughborough wharf basin still exists. This is a small branch of the Grand Union Canal which runs through Loughborough. The wharf now backs onto what is now the Travelodge Inn.

Thank you so much diddymiller, that is exactly what I wanted. Was hoping to get a response from you, you are so knowledgeable about Loughborough. Although I live in Leicester my knowledge of Loughborough is very limited. Hope to get to Loughborough this summer to check out the lay of the land and search through records.
