St Davids Roman Catholic Chapel, Bute Terrace, Cardiff
« on: Tuesday 10 May 16 14:22 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can any one help, trying to find a photo or sketch of St. Davids Hall, formerly the Catholic Church which was on the corner of Bute Terrace and David Street built i believe in 1842 anddemolished in the 1970's  and replaced by St Davids RC Cathedral in Charls Street.
Thanks for any help.

Can't help with a photo of the original church, but the current St David's church in Charles Street (became St David's Cathedral in 1920) was opened in 1887. The Cathedral was partially destroyed during WW2 but re-built and re-opened in 1959.

Just a thought .. St David's Hall is nowhere near David Street / Bute Terrace  ???

The earlier post mentioned by Cas (stallc) says it was where the Cardiff International Arena (or Motorpoint Arena) is now.

I think that if you can get sight of 25 inch Ordnance Survey Maps-- Glamorgan  XLIII.15 you may be able to pin-point the chapel as the survey was done in 1876. I haven't managed to do that yet. Toby.

I do now have 2 pictures of the old church, one of the church itself and one showing Stanley Street, the narrow lane where the church stood on the corner. Not sure how big they are - on my phone - but don’t seem able to post them 🤔
