Birth Registration - Thomas Newton Tyrell

Hello, all.

I am looking for some help in finding the birth registration of a Thomas Newton Tyrell, born in Ottawa in the 1890s.  I have found conflicting information to date, specifically:

1901 Census - gives birth date as March 29th, 1891, in Ottawa.

1910 Census - gives birth as March 1892, in Ottawa.

Marriage (1915) - gives his age as 22, suggesting that he was born in 1893.

Headstone - gives only a year of birth of 1893.

I have tried looking through Ancestry's data set for Ontario births for all three years without success.  I have noticed a lot of registrations made after the fact (in some cases, decades later).  Does anybody know of any missing portions of said record, or alternate sources that might be more successful?

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, it wasn't 1891 (as per 1901 census) as he is not listed with the family in the 1891 Census (taken April 6th, 1891).  In 1891 they were living in Russell and 1901 they are in Ottawa.  Frank was born April 1894, so your choices are 92 or 93.  It is entirely possible that his birth was never registered.  The ones that were done years later were done by the people themselves if they were required to provide proof of their age for a pension, etc.

I have contacted the Ottawa Genealogical Society and they will have a look through their records to see what information they have on Thomas. If they don't have the information then I can contact the
Pine Crest Cemetery directly and  have them check their  records.

Will let you know what I find out one way or another.

What troubles me is that Thomas had older siblings born in Canada, so his parents were definitely aware of the requirement for registration.

Something like illness or bad winter weather might have prevented the birth froim being registered at the time. Have you tried finding baptism record (make show a birth date but if not at least he should have been born sometime before the baptism)? school registers?

Some information on Thomas Newton  Tyrell for you from An***try.

It looks like Thomas remarried after first wife Ethel Brown died 9 March 1950

Found a obituary for second wife Elsebeth Tyrell(nee Shaver) who died 1967 in which Thomas is   mentioned as her husband this from Ottawa Journal. Residence  was 8 Ault Dr. Ingleside,Ont

Thomas died in 1971 and is buried with Elsebeth at  St. Lawrence Union Cemetery ,Stormant,Dundas,Glengarry County. Dates on His shared headstone with Elsebeth  say 1892-1971. There are some pictures of Thomas as a young man and older along with a small write up of his first marriage  to Ethel. Several listing on the voters lists also.


Have not found a obit for him, could be that there isn't one
If we can find his religion that might give a lead as to where to look for a record for his birth.

Further searching indicates Thomas was Church of England.

Family Search has  Delayed Birth Registrations on their site but it is not indexed so it can be pretty time consuming.
