Who did John Carter marry before 1695

This is a long shot but don't know what else to do so here goes ;D

John Carter and his wife Mary had a number of children starting with their son John born in June 1695 at Salehurst, Sussex.  There are children born regularly after the 1695 date.

Thus my hypothesis is that John Carter and Mary ? married maybe up to 5 years before the birth of the first son in 1695.

Despite a lot of searching and accessing the Sussex Family History Group I have been unable to locate the marriage.  It was suggested that as Salehurst is close to the Kent border perhaps Mary was from Kent and not Sussex and that the marriage occurred in Kent. 

So I am wondering if anyone with skills better than mine can locate a marriage between John Carter & Mary between 1690 - 1695?

I don't know what was John's occupation so no help there :D

I entered the name John Carter spouse Mary into family search with the date Range given and search area Kent. The results showed two possible results. Both are for Canterbury area which is a long way from Sussex. A Mary Oodruff 17 July 1692 and Mary Hastenwood 22 September 1692.
Even if you can rule them out it might help narrow your search area.

Both the marriages as found by Panda were by Licence and said to take place at St Alphage, Canterbury.  According to the Licence one of the intended brides was Martha Woodruffe.

However, the other licence specifies that John Carter was a bachelor aged 22 of Deal (even further from Sussex) and a Butcher.  His bride was to be Mary Haselwood a spinster of the same parish aged also 22.

May  help with the elimination process.

Have you considered the marriage of John Carter to Mary Dean in 1692 at St Anne, Soho, Westminster.  That marriage was also by Licence so, if you post to the ? board, it maybe possible that someone has access to the Licence which may could have some more useful information.  ???
