James Nixon 1837-1919 married to Jane Kelly b1835

They had 2 children:

Andrew Nixon 1876-1925 and James George Nixon 1877-1963.

Andrew married Isabella Mars 1880-1956. They had five children: Isabella, Joseph, Matilda, Mary and Violet.

James married Jane (Jessie) Highgate. They had one child Jane Porterfield Nixon.

My main interest is finding James Nixons parents and any info on Jane Porterfield Nixon. I know she married a John Glasgow and moved to Australia

According to at least one online tree Jean Porterfield Nixon was born 1915 and died 1999.

The marriage certificate for James Nixon & Jane Kelly should show the names & occupations of both fathers. This shows the date as 1875 but the actual certificate will show more detail-

There were no Nixons listed in the 1831 census of Goshedon.  I also do not see them in Legahory in 1831 (it seems to have been listed as Legacurry as it follows Lackagh on p. 27).  However, there were Kellys in Legahory in 1813.

However, Legaghory is on the east side of Goshedon on the Faughan river and next up river is the townland of Toneduff.  In the 1831 census we have Andrew Nixon & Thomas Nixon in a household of 2 families with 3 males and 4 females and 1 male servant.  Andrew and Thomas Nixon are also listed in Toneduff in the Tithe Applottment books in Toneduff.  Also in the Tithe records for Toneduff was William Nixon and James Nixon.  James Nixon also appeared in the 1831 census for Toneduff in a household with 1 family with 4 males and 4 females as well as 1 male and 1 female servant.  The Nixons were in Toneduff for sometime as James Nixon is there in 1740 (called Tondoo) and Simon Nixon and James Nixon are listed in the 1774 Freeholder's Register for Tonduffe.  Going back further James Nixon was listed in Toneduff in the 1663 Hearth Money Rolls [Rutherford, p. 111].  Thus, I suspect your family originated in Toneduff.

As a further note, a James Nixon was also listed in nearby Lackagh in the 1796 Freeholders.

Well if James Nixon's father was Thomas, chances are the following is an elder brother of James:

6 January 1828, John, son of Thomas Nixon of Kildoay, and Mary Hamilton

This baptism was in the record of Church of Ireland - Lower Cumber parish.  Other Nixon entries in it are:

10 June 1812 Catherine, natural daughter of James Nixon & Mary Kerr
14 February 1844, Eliza, natural daughter of Thomas Nixon and Jane Craig
1 March 1848, Thomas, son of Adam Nixon, labourer, and Esther Hare
16 Jan 1865, Thomas, son of John Nixon, labourer of Goshoden, and Margaret Reed

Knockbrack townland is on the west side of Gosheden townland.  Kildoag townland in on the southeast side of Gosheden townland.

And nothing to do with the question - but Nixons were still living in Toneduff when I lived there in the 1950's - used to leave my bike in their barn - while I got the bus to school.....

It would be great if you guys did an autosomal dna test with family tree dna or ancestry.com and uploaded to Gedmatch.  There is a good chance I descend from the family of Elizabeth Kincade of Toneduff (1831 census).  Since both of you seem to have connections to the immediate vicinity of Toneduff, it would be great to see if we are a dna match.  I am on Gedmatch.
