Hi Annette

I have got back to my Father....Dennis James Oram, born 1st June 1922 - 1983, his Mother: Irene Florence G Smith (1886 - 1972) I think ?. and his Father James E Oram.

I believe he had a Sister Joan DP Oram

Then the trail goes cold.

Does this help?

Hi RogerJames, welcome to Rootschat.

We can give you all sorts of info, and make all sorts of guesses - educated and wild! - on your behalf, but a lot of the fun of doing the family tree is finding stuff out for yourself.

This does not mean, of course, that you shouldn't ask for help - that's what this site is about! But I hope you don't mind my saying that you sound as though you are probably still very early on in your ancestor hunt, and I wonder if the best help we can give you might be to point you in the direction of where/how to find out stuff - what do you think?

Do you know the freeBMD site that avm refers to?

www.freebmd.org.uk

not only will this give you names etc, but if you want to order any birth/marriage/death certs, you will need the reference numbers that this site will give you.

And speaking of cetificates, do you know where best to get those?

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/     ----- if you use any other site for ordering certificates, you will pay more than you need to.

Are you using any of the paying FH websites? If you haven't yet taken out a sub, it would be worthwhile seeing if you can get a free trial of Ancestry or Find My Past.

That's just the beginnings --- lots more there - but those would be a good start! Hope you don't mind me posting this, apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!

And of course RC is a brilliant source of help - but as I said, many of us find the fun is in working out the puzzles!
