Mary Charlton of Chatam
« on: Monday 06 June 16 15:53 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information on the family of Mary Charlton born in Chatham on 9/5/1776. She died
at Stoke Newington on 2/9/1841. Her husband was James Theodore Vautin born in Bishopsgate
4/4/1776, died 15/10/1857 at Stoke Newington. Any help would be much appreciated.

I can't see a baptism in Chatham  ???

There's a baptism for a Mary CHARLTON in Gillingham  25th May 1771, daughter of William & Mary.

I suspect you have got this information from one of the many trees on ancestry - first put on by someone and duly copied by umpteen others without checking if this is fact!   No source is given on any of the trees.

I have just gone through the parish records for Chatham for 1776 and a) there were no baptisms at all on 9/5/1776, and b) none for a Charlton at all for the whole of 1776!!   So, this information is clearly incorrect.   From online baptisms there doesn't appear to have been any Charlton baptisms at Chatham between 1758 and 1780.

I have a copy of a photo of Marys tombstone in the Abney Park cemetery at Stoke
Newington . It confirms her death date and says she died " in her 66th year". That would
confirm her birth timeline. Her husband was born in Bishopsgate , London. Perhaps a look
there might bring something to light.
                                                             Thanks

It does not however confirm her date or place of birth just a guess as to the approximate year.  ???

Where did the date of birth and birth place of Chatham come from.

I presume that she is on the 1841 H0107/ Piece 700 bk11 f16 p27 in Hackney (Middlesex) where her age is given as 65 and not born in the county of Middlesex.  Her husbands entry states he was born in the county of Middlesex.  That would surely rule out being born in the same place as him.
