hi i got sent two baptisms for two of my ancestors one in county louth 24may 1857 the other in county meath a james sheilds and thomas sheilds parents father john shields and mother catherine mccabe was wondering how i could find there marriage thanks

The parents marriage?
Are they in the 1901 Census. Marriages usually happen in the brides parish so it would be good to know where Catherine was born.
Also were either of the sons you have their first born, this will help with a year the marriage could have taken place.

As the Louth one is the earliest that would be the place to start, but you need their religious denomination.
If the were Church of Ireland they should have a marriage cert, you could try here

Hi, I found 4 children born to this couple:

Patrick  - 1 May 1856 - Collon, Co. Louth - Roman Catholic
James - 24 May 1857 - Collon, Co. Louth - Roman Catholic
Thomas - 27 Feb 1859 - Slane, Co. Meath - Roman Catholic
John - 25 May 1862 - Collon, Co. Louth - Roman Catholic

The marriage was a little trickier, but I believe I have found it: John Reid? and Catherine McCabe married in Collon, Co. Louth on 1 Jan 1856. Checking the original page it looks like Reid should actually be Sheil. Unfortunately as is often the case with RC marriages the names of the parents of the bride and groom are not given in the records.

Are you saying the two baptisms you were sent are incorrect?
What are the names and dates of the sons born in the UK and have you confirmed their parents as John Shields and Catherine McCabe?

If the baptisms you were sent are correct I would be confident that the other children I found are part of the same family, and could be the family you are looking for. Don't forget that it was not unusual for children to die young so they would not appear on the census where you found the rest of the family and the later children in England. It was also very common for the names of children who had died to be reused for their younger siblings, and more especially if it was the father or grandfathers name, so to have another child in the family named John would not be at all surprising.

English census records typically only have Ireland as the place of birth rather than the county or the town, do you know that the family was from Louth/Meath? Have you sent away for the birth certificates of the other children to confirm that their mother was Catherine McCabe?
