Sarah Buckell born 1876 Caton, Lancs lived in Harwell, Berks 1881 onwards

Hi all,

I'm trying to find the above Sarah Buckell born in mar1/4 1876 Caton, Lancs to a Harriet Eliza Buckell (nee Woodley).

Harriet married Henry John Buckell (Elderfield) in  Long Wittenham, Berks 1873 and she died and was buried aged 23 in Caton, Lancs.

I have this Sarah in both the 1881 & 91 censues living with her grandmother Sophia Palmer (nee Elderfield) in Harwell but cannot find any trace of her after 1891.

This Sarah is only a twig on my tree  but am trying to find out why her mother was in the North of England with no known family of friends that I know of. I can only believe that Harriet died in childbirth.

Sarah Buckell was bapt. in Harwell 3-9-1876 as the d/o Henry John & Harriet Eliza of Didcot and christened under the name of "Elderfield" per the parish transcripts.

Can anyone help in finding this Sarah please?

Can I just clarify a couple of points please Alan?

Can you confirm that her name is Sarah Buckell Elderfield as per her baptism?
Her father is Henry John Elderfield? Why does he also have the surname Buckell?
Her mother is Harriet Eliza Buckell nee Woodley (presumably she was a widow when she married Henry).

You want to find Sarah after your last sighting of her in the 1891 census? (My first thought is that she married hence has a different surname)

You are wondering why Harriet was away and not with family when she had Sarah? (I'm not sure you could ever know that for sure - she may have been with distant family or friends)

Do you have Henry John in the censuses?

Many thanks for your help. Yes I can now see her in the 1901 census and also have found her in the 1911 as well.

To save any confusion I will try and get these threads merged into one.

Its an interesting story still to unfold.

The entry in the bapt. register reads;

3-9-1876 Sarah Buckell d/o Henry John and Harriet Eliza of Didcot -Christened “Elderfield” .

Elderfield being Henry John's mother's maiden name as she was single at the time - she was Sophia Elderfield, married Thomas Buckell (died 1861) and remarried Anthony Palmer in 1880.

Harriet Eliza Woodley was, (as far as I know)  single when she married Henry in 1873

I have Henry John Buckell in most of the censuses; 1851,81,91,& 1911 all Harwell, Berks
