Trafford Grove, Stretford
« on: Sunday 24 July 16 11:32 BST (UK) »
Whilst looking at a Baptism at The Weslyan Methodist Church in Stretford (Edge Lane I think), I noticed that about half the entries were for people living in Trafford Grove.

Does anyone know anything of the history of Trafford Grove? Were they built for Methodists?

Just curious, Eric.

Found this on a history of Longford Cinema:

Trafford Grove, which runs in three double blocks along the Bridgewater Canal from St Ann’s Church to the Cinema was built in the 1860’s by Sir Humphrey de Trafford. The Grove was built for Pedestrian access only, the houses having wide front gardens with a narrow walkway between.

Thanks.

That was the only bit I found.

Maybe I should look into Sir Humphrey.

I think he was Catholic? Might be worth looking for rent books?

Just been reading about him and he was Catholic, so shoots down my idea.

Not to worry. Probably just coincidence.
