Hello, I would be most grateful if anyone will look up the 1841, '51, '61 or '71 census for William Beresford, who married Sarah Aldred in Duffield parish church in 1805. Not sure of his dob, and all I have is that his daughter Emma was born in 1821 and baptized at St. John's church, Belper. She married my ancestor, Thomas Seavern, who became the keeper of the Butts at this church. I believe William was a stone mason.

Have you checked the indexes on FS? I can't see him.

There are burials:

William Beresford 55 yrs abt 1776
Buried 27 th Nov 1831. St Peter's Church, Belper

William Beresford 64 yrs abt 1780
Buried 25th Dec 1844. St Peter's Church, Belper, Derbyshire, England

The second one should be around in 1841

Hard to pin down, but think he may be alone with his wife Sarah in Ashover in the 1841 census. If he is the W Beresford who dies in '44, then that would explain why I can't find him in the later ones. Will see if I can find Sarah in the '51 census somewhere.

William in Ashover is a Frame Work Knitter.

Thanks, Heywood - yes, I saw that, now I don't think it's our man. Seems like he could be the W Beresford who died in '31. Am thinking it likely that they had other children than Emma, who was born 16 years after William and Sarah married, but can't seem to pin them down.

By saying you cant pin them down do you mean you dont have these Christenings?

Parents WILLIAM/SARAH Beresford

FreeBMD has a possible Marriage for Ellen 1840.
Looks to me she married Thomas SANDERS.

1841 in Duffield we have;
Thos Sauders, 20
Ellen Sauders, 20
Susanna Sauders, 10mths

1851 she is Ellen SAUNDERS born c 1817 Belper
By 1861 they have moved to Lancashire
She is still alive and on 1901 Census.

A Tree has these Children to William/Sarah;
SARAH, 1806-1810
WILLIAM, 27 March 1808
MARTHA 1813
ELLEN 1818
EMMA 1821
MARY 1834 ( I doubt this one is theirs)

A William Beresford born c 1809 Belper, does appear on 1841/1851/1861 Census with his Family

Oh, thank you, Trish, for that - most helpful! This does pin them down (wasn't totally sure, as there was another William and Sarah, but since the William b.1809 is a stone mason, like his father, I'm happy)
