Help finding marriage - Richard Steel, father of Frances Edna Steel
« on: Saturday 30 July 16 19:44 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Yesterday I received the death certificate of Richard Steel (1889 - 1974), son of John Steel and Frances Nichol.

It states that he had a daughter named Frances Edna Dennis. According to her death record, she was born in 1919 in Cumberland and she married in 1948 to George Dennis.

I found her birth record as well, in 1919 Wigton, Frances Edna Steel, mothers maiden name is Williamson.

However looking at the marriages, I can only find a marriage for a John Steel in 1906, but no marriage for a Richard Steel and a woman with a maiden name Williamson.

I will likely need the birth certificate of Frances to find the marriage and any subsequent siblings of Frances if she has any, but I was hoping if anyone might be able to help without the need of the certificate.

my thanks and appreciation

Could that be Wilkinson rather than Williamson - marriage Richard Steel Dec 1918 - Wigton 10b 1107 - Mary H Wilkinson  ???

that would explain why there is no marriage under Williamson, though its quite a discrepancy

Guess the birth certificate will clear up any confusion, though it certainly looks like Frances was an only child

I can confirm (from 1939 "census") that her mother was Mary H.

:)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

thanks guys

I think looking from it, Williamson could simply be a transcription error

Looking at both her death record and the 1939 register, it looks like Richard's wife was born in 1894 and died in 1952 in Westmorland.

It appears Frances was an only child.

Looking at the freebmd, Mary's second name was Hannah, however it is not clear where she was born and it looks like she wasn't born in Westmorland, though there is a birth in 1896 in Cockermouth
