Lady Walker
« on: Sunday 14 August 16 12:28 BST (UK) »
Hi all
I have a photo of my grt aunt Louie Horne Joint taken by 'Lady Walker' in 1927 outside a rather grand looking entrance. I have tried to find who this lady is and have one possibility. Lady Harriet Edith Walker daughter of Rev Thomas Coulthard. I need to know where she may have been living after 1891 as that is the only census I can access. Her husband was military and was in India between 1924-28 , so she would have had to stay behind if this is her. I am interested as I wonder why my Aunt was having tea with this Lady, as my aunt was very poor and lived in a cottage in Lee Mill.
Thanks

Hi

There is a report on the death of her son James Coulthard Walker in January 1941 in that report it says son of " Lady Walker of Palace Lodge, Crediton, Devon"

1901 census ~ she is with her mother as in Plymouth at 16 Whitefield Terrace

She died in 1958 at the Kensington Hotel, 118 Queens Gate Kensington , London.

Wow thanks so much, I find it hard to believe there would be more than one Lady Walker around the Plymouth area in that timescale, so maybe the tea and photograph were not at her house but at a function in Plymouth.I have just re read the back of the photo and it says 'taken by Lady Walker outside her house after having tea'.

Hi,
Just to complete the picture. Lady Walker was originally Harriet Edith Coulthard, daughter of Thomas Coulthard of Plymouth. Harold and Harriet married in 1887.

The Times, Jan 22 1924
Crediton Devon - Lady Walker, proceeding India, will LET her small, well furnished COUNTRY HOUSE for one or more years - apply Palace Lodge, Crediton

Western Morning News - Fri 20 Apr 1928
Lieut Gen Sir Harold B Walker and Lady Walker have arrived from India and taken up their residence at Palace Lodge, Crediton

Looking for a "sighting" of Lady Walker in 1927.

Doesn't help you find lady Walker
but this might be the house, called Palace villa on this old map

http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=18&lat=50.7916&lon=-3.6506&layers=168&b=1

It seems to be on the corner of Blagdon terrace and Old Tiverton road.

if you go to Google street map the house if it still there seems to be hidden by tall trees, but what appears to be next door (or could be part of same property) is Walker Court

I think I have been barking up the wrong Lady Walker, as it seems she was indeed in India in 1927
