Silas Hodgkins married Fanny Martin
« on: Monday 22 August 16 16:06 BST (UK) »
Hello

I have Silas Hodgkins marrying Fanny Martin (my 1st cousin twice removed) 2nd May 1903 Bradford Cathedral (St Peter's). I wonder does anybody have access to this marriage to find if it gives an occupation for Silas?

Silas was born in 1869 and I have his parents and have found him in the censuses of 1871 and 1881. However I cannot find him in the 1891 and 1901 census. In 1911 I have Fanny living in Leeds as a 34 yr old Cook but no sign of Silas. She says she was married with 1 child who had died (I think this was likely Maud Hodgkins who was born and died 1908 but not sure on this).

I haven't found the death of Silas Hodgkins at all.

I wondered if he was maybe in either the Army or Navy which might account for not finding him in the 1891 and 1901 censuses. There is a S Hodgkins in the Boar War records but not much more information.

Fanny went on to marry William F Borley in 1920 so Silas was presumably dead by then.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Tinsmith, father is Henry an Ironmonger.  Silas is 33.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Ummm - that would be Boer War?! ;D

Boer is Dutch for Farmer.
