Dumfriesshire death notice from 1839.
« on: Tuesday 23 August 16 07:24 BST (UK) »
Please would someone of you who live thereabouts tell me what this place is, in the oval.   ' Bargarg Village? '  It comes under a 'Keir' registration from SP.

It looks as if it could be a hospital for those with TB.  Pity they don't give an age for the people who died there.

I wondered whether to put this on the deciphering board . . . then thought the locals might be a better bet.

Thanks for the map Ev.

So it is just a village - - where there was a quite bit of consumption that year - and all other years probably.   :(

The family of the man I am looking for were farmers in Annan, and Dryfesdale - is it likely that they could be from the same family - is it very far away? . . .  (I mean once, I noticed that somewhere was comparatively close, but was then informed by the locals 9n Yorkshire, that the Pennines occupied most of those 10 miles so contact was not very likely - anything like that in this case??)     The son died in Lochmaben.

What was the surname of the family you're looking for ?

I did find this which lists the male heads of families in Keir 1834 - 1838 -

I am looking for David Johnstone - very tricky as I only know of him via his son's death cert.

I don't know his birth, marriage ( supposedly to Mary Wallace) or his death.  So, to date I've looked around the area where his family were living.   Son was born 1791

Thanks for you help Ev.
