Warwickshire Record Office - Marriage License 1712 lookup
« on: Saturday 03 September 16 00:44 BST (UK) »
Would there be anyone able to help me with details on a marriage license please?
I have John NICHOLS of Snitterfield married Judith DAWCKES of Lillington by License at St Mary, Warwick.
I am stuck on who the father of John NICHOLS is, and hoping for clues  :)
Thanks,
Sharon

If the Marriage Bond and Allegation have survived, then they will be held at either Lichfield or Worcester.  There is no sign of them under the holdings at Lichfield.

Marriage Bonds and Allegations
Many people chose to marry away from their home parish, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, and records of these, (where they survive), containing more information than is found in parish registers are at Worcestershire Record Office and Lichfield Record Office.

Taken from Warwickshire Record Office website.

Unless the bride or groom were under age, or their parents were bondsmen, then there is not much hope for parents to be named.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Shame you didn't know of the Worcester alternative - especially as ciderdrinker was there for you yesterday.   :'(  Always the same, isn't it?  Hindsight is wonderful.  :)

Yes, a shame about that, in all my 15 years of research I haven't searched in this area of the country before, so I am learning a lot :D

Just a thought, it might be an idea to re-post this request, linking the two together, under Worcestershire.  You never know, ciderdrinker may come up trumps again  :-\

Good luck  :)
