William Bigerton Rawlings
« on: Tuesday 06 September 16 05:59 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have William Bigerton Rawlings bpt 21 Sept.1783 in Worcs. Parents John Rawlings and Elizabeth?
Sorry! I do not know the surname of Elizabeth.
My problem is I cannot find anymore on Wm.B. and I'm trying to ascertain whether or not these three people are connected to my John Rawlings, again wife Elizabeth whose name I do not know or when they married but they likely had Joseph bpt. 24  Jan.1786, St.Swithins, Richard  (#1)bpt.25 July 1787, poss. buried  9 July.1788, St.Swithins, Richard (#2) bpt, 23 Aug.1789 St Swithins and Thomas bpt. 11 Feb.1791 St. Swithins.

Sorry! I know this is all quite vague but I'm hoping some one can help clarify if these are the same parents/family.

Thanks for your time,

Chooch

Hi Chooch,

As William Bigerton Rawlings was also baptised at St Swithins with parents John and Elizabeth it is almost certainly the same family. Also, with such an unusual middle name i think it very likely that this is his mothers maiden name, as he seems to be the first born.

Hello
Could this be John's parents?
Richard Rawlins married 29.10.1750 Frances Bickerton at Bedwardine
There are two possible burials for Richard at St Swithans
9.7.1788 and 6.9.1789.

And a couple of possible children at Hamptpn and Great Hampton
Elizabeth 4.11.1750 Hampton and Francis 13.5.1755 Great Hampton.

Hi and thank you Peter and ciderdrinker.

It does likely they are the same family and 'gut instinct' for what it's worth is telling me it is so, unfortunately that isn't proof. So I'm keeping them on the side at the moment until I can be more certain.
I did think the same as you Peter that Bigerton could be a clue to Elizabeth but so far unable to find any such marriage even in other counties and the name seems more commonly to be spelled 'Bickerton'.
This leads me to ciderdrinker's message ( love the name by the way). With the name 'Richard' Rawlins cropping up again with the marriage of Frances Bickerton at Bedwardine, maybe  Williams middle name of BIGERTON came from his grandmother's side. Another coincidence ( however slim) is that John and Elizabeths son Thomas bpt 1791 married a lass who was bpt Bedwardine.

As to the burials of two Richards, I had thought that the one 9 Sept.1888 was of John and Elizabeths son bpt July 1787, the second one possibly of the second Richard bpt 23 Aug.1789 but now I'm not so sure of that so will have to try harder to find him as it could possibly be Richard ( the Grandfather?).

I have also come across a Richard Rawlings ( could he be Richard #2 ?) who in Meigs Cty Ohio USA states on his  Declaration of Intention to become a citizen in 1840 that he was born 29 July 1789 ( would he have been bpt a month later?) in Worcester and left UK 1835, this man died in June 1847 Meigs Cty ( findagrave) but I cannot find any proof of parentship for him and the trees on 'A' all seem to have copied information from each other and with many discrepancies.

So lots of coincidences to sort out and keep the grey matter active.

Thank you both very much for your input and help, I appreciate it very much
